TGR, AGR and ADA: 2002-2004 GM Steerable Rear Axles in Gasoline Models Only
(07-04)
DECRIPTION:
GM four-wheel steering system called
QUADRASTEER rear axle uses 75w-90 with a friction modifier. QUADRASTEER
significantly enhances low-speed maneuverability, high-speed stability, and
trailering capability for GM equipped vehicles. QUADRASTEER combines front wheel
steering with electrically powered rear-wheel steering. The QUADRASTEER system
is manufactured by Delphi Corporation’s joint venture Saginaw/Dana Division in
Saginaw MI.
There maybe confusion in the
AMSOIL
G-50 Product Selection Guide and electronic look-up, as to the correct
gear lubricant to be use in the gasoline and diesel models equipped with this
system. The QUADRASTEER system is currently not offered on any heavy duty GM
vehicles which includes all diesel models. As of this time, only gasoline models
offer the QUADRASTEER systems.
The Delphi Corporation factory
fills with a 75W-90 synthetic lubricant meeting GM Specification # 9986207. To
this lubricant a friction modifier is then added. The GM service fill, on the
other hand, recommends part number #12378557. Again a 75W-90 synthetic gear
lubricant but already contains a friction modifier.
Footnotes within the G-50 or
electronic look-up may read footnote states “Do not add friction modifier” for
the QUADRASTEER application. The reason for this is that GM part # 12378557 has
the friction modifier already in the formula and the addition of more friction
modifier is not needed.
RECOMMENDATIONS
AMSOIL
recommended gear lube should be TGR or AGR with the addition of
AMSOIL
friction modifier (ADA).
