AMSOIL announces a new line of attractively priced
synthetic oils available in three different viscosities. OE Synthetic

AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oils, fortified with
friction modifiers, are designed to provide better fuel economy compared

API SN Resource Conserving and ILSAC GF-5 industry specifications, the
new Signature Series line features all-new packaging and represents the
very best motor oils AMSOIL has to offer, allowing motorists to take
advantage of maximum extended drain intervals. In the interest of
consistency and clarity within the Signature Series line, all four motor
oils are recommended for drain intervals of up to 25,000 miles/one year,
whichever comes first (15,000 miles/one year in severe service
conditions).
The new Signature Series line is replacing the
previous formulations of the AMSOIL top-tier oils as inventories
dictate; orders will be filled with the older formulations and packaging
until inventory is depleted, which may occur at varying times for each
viscosity. The former Signature Series 0W-30 formulation (SSO) is

AMSOIL Reformulates XL Synthetic Oils with Extended

AMSOIL announces the reformulation of its Extended Life
XL Synthetic Motor Oils, now available in four different viscosities
with a bold new packaging design. The new XL oils contain Extended Drain
Boost for longer service life in keeping with the lengthening oil change
intervals of newer cars. XL has been formulated to meet the more
stringent ILSAC GF‐5 and API SN service categories and offers better
engine protection for reduced maintenance costs in gasoline engines.
AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils employ an extra treatment
of alkaline additives added to premium synthetic base stocks to
neutralize acids. The extra additive package effectively raises the
total base number (TBN) and resists shear to provide superior
performance throughout the entire drain interval of up to 10,000 miles
or six months, whichever comes first.

products were submitted for consideration of this distinctive honor in
various categories. In determining the winners, judges looked for

Modern engine design trends have resulted in some
vehicles that present multiple challenges to filtration engineers,
especially those who are focused on delivering extended service life. In
order to remain serviceable for an extended period, a filter must ensure
adequate capacity while maintaining sufficient efficiency throughout the
specified interval. This is often accomplished in part through the use
of high efficiency media and a slightly larger can to increase capacity.
Barriers to
Extended Service
Vehicle
manufacturers are under tremendous pressure to provide fuel efficient
vehicles that produce fewer emissions than their predecessors. In fact,
government mandates require automakers to meet specific fuel efficiency
and emissions benchmarks or face steep monetary penalties. Vehicle
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) employ a variety of techniques
to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, and nearly all of them
negatively impact motor oil and oil filtration.
Smaller Sumps,
Smaller Filters, More Contaminants
To meet the
demand for greater efficiency, OEMs are offering smaller, more
aerodynamic cars. They have also introduced several new engine
technologies designed to deliver greater power out of smaller, more
fuel-efficient engines, which often rely on turbos or unique fuel
injection systems that can increase the amount of contaminants
introduced into the oil. As these cars have become smaller, engine
compartments have become too tight to use a filter of increased size.
This, coupled with the trend toward smaller oil sumps in many of these
applications, results in an extremely challenging task for oil filters.
Additional
Contaminant Generation
To meet the
demand for reduced emissions, OEMs are applying a number of methods,
including exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). EGR works by recycling a
small amount of spent exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. Some
of the side-effects of EGR include less-efficient combustion, increased
temperatures and increased acids; all of which add to the oil filter’s
workload.
AMSOIL Overcomes
Obstacles
For some of
these applications extending the service life of the oil filter would
seem impossible. Smaller sump sizes, some historically sludgy engines
and smaller filter sizes, combined with increased contaminants in the
engine oil, present a serious challenge to filtration engineers. AMSOIL
has overcome all those obstacles with its introduction of 15,000-mile Ea
Oil Filters (EA15K). There are 11 15,000-mile Ea Filters in all,
including some that were previously available as 25,000-mile filters.
While AMSOIL has had no issues with these filters, the engine
technologies used in the vehicles to which they apply are simply too
demanding on an oil filter to continue offering 25,000-mile intervals.
Also included in the group of 15,000-mile Ea Oil Filters are a number of
filters (EA15K09, EA15K10, EA15K13) that were either discontinued or
available only at OEM-recommended intervals due to the engine design
issues outlined in AMSOIL Technical Service Bulletins FL-2009-05-01 and
FL-2010-04-01.

recommended for 15,000-mile service intervals are designated by the
product code EA15K. These filters have been redesigned, but still
feature the same premium nanofiber synthetic media as their 25,000-mile
counterparts. In addition to some slight packaging modifications, AMSOIL
has identified existing Ea Oil Filters moving from 25,000- to
15,000-mile intervals by placing stickers on the boxes.
INJEN/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems.
Cold air intake systems serve
several important functions. Primarily, they are used to increase the
amount of oxygen available to the engine, increasing power. Because cool
air has greater density than hot air, aftermarket intakes improve
combustion of fuel by capturing cooler air from outside the engine
compartment. In addition, an aftermarket air intake system increases the
diameter of the intake as compared to the original equipment, increasing
air flow into the engine and making more oxygen available during the
combustion process.
By designing a more
direct route for the air entering the engine, as well as a smoother
interior surface for the intake, air resistance is reduced and air flow
is increased. To protect the engine from damaging dirt, cold air intakes
are also equipped with filters. Air intake systems can improve gas
mileage and increase performance, and they also add a sleek, custom look
to a vehicle.

Although a certain level of detergent additive is required by law to be
formulated into gasoline, cost restrictions cause refineries to use low
quality additives in the lowest additive concentration (LAC), a level
insufficient to prevent deposit accumulation. As a result, deposits
accumulate on fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers,
often within just a few thousand miles, disrupting spray patterns,
affecting electronic sensors and causing a multitude of problems.

additive available today. As a concentrated detergent, it is

with the same synthetic nanofiber media as other AMSOIL Ea Air Filters. AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are designed to replace
stock cellulose, oil-wetted gauze or foam filters. The nanofibers in
EaAR Filter media have sub-micron diameters and small inter-fiber
spaces, resulting in more contaminants being captured on the surface of
the media. Cellulose, wetted gauze and foam filters are larger and have
larger spaces between the fibers in the media, causing contaminants to
load into the depth of the filter, plugging the airflow path and
resulting in higher restriction than one micron in diameter, and because
of their size, there are more pores per square-inch (higher pore
density), allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure
drop when compared to traditional filter media. Thinner media fibers,
like those in EaAR Air Filters, produce more uniform pore size
distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and
retain particles.

75W-110 Severe

Introduces World’s First Oil Filter Cartridge for Diesel Applications
with Nanofiber Technology. This new premium, high efficiency cartridge
oil filter utilizes nanofiber technology for the Ford 6.0L diesel
engines ranging from 2003 to 2006. The new EaO-88 is the world’s first
oil filter cartridge for diesel applications using advanced submicron
full synthetic media. The EaO-88 provides an efficiency of 98.7% at 16
microns, significantly higher than the OEM filter. The rigid
construction of this filter is due to a polymeric center tube and end
caps, along with its proprietary composition incorporating special grade
nanofiber synthetic media, enabling the filter to last up to 1 year or
25,000 miles when used in conjunction with AMSOIL synthetic motor oil.
Because of its improved oil flow, an additional benefit of this
synthetic filter media is that oil is delivered to key engine components
